About Us
English for Communication is a core foundation subject taught by the Department of Science and Humanities to all undergraduate engineering students. The department has a state-of-the-art Language Laboratory with advanced techniques and e-learning mechanisms to enhance the communication skills and employability of students. The teaching and learning process is based on Outcome Based Education, integrated with the Aakash 2.0 tablet from IIT Bombay covering remote and collaborative training applications and live assessment tools.

Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialisation for the solution of complex engineering problems.
Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet t h e specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, and cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities, with an understanding of the limitations.
Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with t h e society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of t h e engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
Recognise the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

The Language Laboratory is equipped with 35 systems with 512MB RAM, Globarena software, 1 server, 2 dot matrix printers, 1 laser printer and 40 headphones. The lab is specifically designed to enhance the communication skills and employability of engineering students through structured practice and e-learning mechanisms.

The department library has 116 volumes across 4 titles supporting the teaching and research needs of faculty and students. Access to the central library with 44,263 books, Elsevier e-journal database, DELNET and National Digital Library is also available for comprehensive reference support.

The department not only teaches the curriculum but also ensures that the gap between what is taught in college and what is practised in industry is bridged by arranging frequent Guest Lectures, Seminars and Conferences. The department encourages students to engage in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities to develop team spirit, organisational skills and overall personality.
